What is endocrinology?

Endocrinology is the speciality that deals with disorders of the endocrine system. These include common disorders such as diabetes, thyroid disease and osteoporosis as well as a number of more rare but potentially serious conditions due to hormone excess or deficiency. Endocrinologists are also expertly trained in the management of lifestyle diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cholesterol abnormalities and obesity.
